Abu Dhabi and Tanzania Sign $100M MoU to Transform Agriculture

The Tanzania Investment and Special Economic Zones Authority (TISEZA) and Abu Dhabi–based Al Dahra Group, a global leader in sustainable agribusiness, have signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to explore and advance agricultural investment opportunities in Tanzania. The collaboration aims to unlock Tanzania’s agricultural potential through large-scale, modern, and sustainable farming operations.

Under the agreement, Al Dahra and TISEZA will identify and assess agricultural land suitable for irrigation-based, commercial-scale farming projects. The partnership seeks to strengthen Tanzania’s agricultural capabilities, support national food security, and drive economic growth in both countries.

Al Dahra will bring its expertise in high-yield, sustainable crop cultivation, while TISEZA will provide support in land identification, regulatory facilitation, and investment incentives. The initiative aligns with Al Dahra’s 2030 Vision to expand large-scale irrigated farming and accelerate sustainable crop innovation globally.

The strategic alliance includes an estimated investment of up to $100 million, initially focusing on at least 10,000 hectares of farmland, with potential expansion to an additional 10,000 hectares.

Gilead Teri, Director General of TISEZA, said: “This MoU underscores Tanzania’s commitment to welcoming foreign investment and aligns with the nation’s agricultural transformation under President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, aiming for 10% GDP growth in the crop subsector by 2030. This investment also secures markets for millions of smallholder farmers in Tanzania and the region.”

Arnoud van den Berg, Group CEO of Al Dahra, added: “Tanzania offers exceptional agricultural potential. Together with TISEZA, we aim to introduce advanced, sustainable, and resilient farming models, modern infrastructure, state-of-the-art technologies, and smart agritech systems. We are committed to responsible investment and supporting Tanzania’s vision for a modern, diversified agricultural sector.
