Coronavirus: 40% of UAE’s Covid-19 fatalities had diabetes

Date:

About 40 per cent of those who died of Covid-19 in the UAE had diabetes, a top official has said. The official urged those with chronic diseases – especially diabetes – to adhere to all precautionary measures like mask use and social distancing as these are the “most important factor in countering the spread of the coronavirus”.

“The importance of leading a healthy lifestyle and eating healthy cannot be overstated,” said Dr Amna Al Dahak Al Shamsi, official spokesperson of the UAE Government.

She was addressing a virtual briefing about the latest updates of the Covid-19 situation in the country. “We have reached an important stage in tackling the virus. We are witnessing some positive indicators, but the risk of the disease remains and residents’ commitment to precautionary measures is still required to beat it,” she added.
