The UAE remains consistently ranked among the world’s leading nations for healthcare quality.

As the world observes World Health Day on April 7, the UAE is further cementing its role as both a regional and global healthcare hub, with an increasing emphasis on prevention and innovation.
This year’s theme, “Together for Health. Stand with Science,” highlights the importance of building trust in science and enhancing the delivery of care. In the UAE, this is evident through robust healthcare infrastructure, well-defined policies, and a focus on early intervention and promoting healthier lifestyles.
The UAE consistently ranks among the world’s top nations for healthcare quality, driven by ongoing investments and the adoption of advanced technologies. Innovations such as AI tools, telemedicine, and wearable devices are making healthcare more connected, accessible, and efficient for patients.
Global firms like Johnson & Johnson and Eli Lilly are expanding their operations in the UAE, further solidifying the country’s status as a regional hub for medical innovation.
Focus on prevention
Healthcare experts highlight prevention as a major shift in the UAE’s healthcare system, with an emphasis on lifestyle-based care.
Dr. Abdulla Hamed Kazim, Quality Consultant at Response Plus Medical, noted that simple daily habits can have a lasting impact on health:
“Regular movement, such as walking for 30 minutes a day, along with good sleep and balanced nutrition, can make a real difference.”
He added that the UAE is making strides in early screening programs and promoting healthier lifestyle choices among residents.
Rising awareness and tech-driven care
“There is growing awareness around wellbeing. Workplace programs and national initiatives are helping people take more responsibility for their health,” said Dr. Abdulla Hamed Kazim. He highlighted the role of technology, noting that wearable devices and digital tools not only help individuals track their health but also enable doctors to deliver more personalised care.
Data and innovation shaping healthcare
Healthcare leaders emphasize the UAE’s shift toward a proactive system, where interventions occur early rather than waiting for illness to develop.
Pedro Matos Rosa, Managing Director at Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicine Gulf, commented:
“The UAE is showing how healthcare systems can move towards data-led models, supported by strong leadership.”
He added that prioritising early diagnosis and innovation enhances patient outcomes and strengthens the long-term resilience of the healthcare system.
“Our role is to work with partners to improve care and support access to new treatments,” he said.
Road to recovery: Managing chronic conditions
Experts have highlighted the UAE’s progress in managing long-term health issues, such as obesity.
Tony Terzis, Medical Vice President at Eli Lilly META, said World Health Day serves as a reminder for individuals to prioritise their health:
“It starts with regular check-ups and open discussions with doctors.”
He added that conditions like obesity should be approached as ongoing health challenges rather than one-time issues. Terzis noted that the UAE has advanced in this area through national screening programs, community initiatives, and more personalised care strategies.
Looking ahead
Officials note that the UAE’s approach demonstrates how prevention, technology, and strategic partnerships can collectively strengthen healthcare systems.
With ongoing investment and a strong emphasis on community wellbeing, the country is focused on improving health outcomes today while laying the foundation for a healthier future.
