The employee is accused of stealing a pair of shoes and three pieces of clothes with the help of an accomplice.
A cashier at a clothing shop has gone on trial at the Dubai Court of First Instance on a theft charge.
The 38-year-old former Filipina employee is accused of stealing a pair of shoes and three pieces of clothes worth Dh537 with the help of an accomplice, a fugitive.
The incident was reported on July 20 last year at Al Rafaa police station.
The shop manager, a 38-year-old Indian, said that they had suspicions about the defendant who used to bring her friends into the shop and let them inside the fitting room to steal clothes.
“We did not have proof of that, though. On July 20 last year, she again brought a friend to the shop. We had them under a close watch. The cashier brought a pair of shoes and three items of clothes worth Dh537 and gave them to her friend. The latter then brought them to the counter where the defendant, who works also as a saleswoman, pulled off the security sticker off the items.”
According to the manager, the two women then took those pieces inside the fitting room and left them there.
“The friend went out of the shop for about an hour and came back and took the clothes. She left without paying at the counter. The security cameras showed the cashier walking her friend to the entrance while the latter was carrying the stolen pieces. It shows that she was aware about the theft and that friend stole them for her,” the manager told the public prosecution investigator.
A report from the general directorate of forensics and criminology about the footage has been attached to the case file.
The trial will continue on March 25.
