Wizz Air halts all flights to Israel, Dubai, and Abu Dhabi following overnight attack.

Date:

Due to a recent escalation in security concerns, the company said it will not operate flights to or from the four destinations over the next week.

A major airline has cancelled all flights to and from four key destinations following a “recent escalation of the security situation” in Iran.

The move comes after the United States and Israel reportedly launched attacks on Iran, with the first strike occurring near the offices of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

President Donald Trump said in a social media video that the U.S. had begun “major combat operations in Iran,” citing concerns over the country’s continued nuclear program and its plans to develop missiles capable of reaching the United States.

In response to the escalating situation, Wizz Air announced this morning that it is suspending all flights to and from Israel, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Amman with immediate effect, through 7 March.

A spokesperson for the airline said: “Following the recent escalation of the security situation in Iran, Wizz Air confirms it is suspending all flights to and from these destinations. The airline is closely monitoring developments and remains in ongoing contact with local and international authorities, aviation safety agencies, security authorities, and relevant governmental bodies. Operational decisions will continue to be reviewed, and the flight schedule may be adjusted as the situation evolves.”

“The safety and security of our passengers, crew, and aircraft remain Wizz Air’s top priority. We acknowledge the disruption this may cause and appreciate our customers’ understanding. Passengers with affected bookings will be contacted directly with information about their available options.”

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the joint attack with the United States was aimed at “removing an existential threat posed” by Iran.

“Our joint operation will create the conditions for the brave Iranian people to take their fate into their own hands,” he added.

Ahead of the strikes, President Trump had built up the largest U.S. military presence in the Middle East in decades. The deployment of the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln and three guided-missile destroyers at the end of January significantly increased the number of warships in the region.
