UK advises British nationals in the UAE to review travel plans amid escalating US-Iran tensions.

The UK Government has updated its travel advice for the UAE, urging British nationals to remain alert as regional tensions continue to evolve amid the ongoing US-Iran conflict.

The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) said the security situation remains unpredictable, warning that hostilities could resume with little notice despite a recent memorandum of understanding between the US and Iran.

The updated guidance, issued on July 13 and remaining in force on July 14, advises British nationals in the UAE to regularly review their departure plans and ensure their travel documents are valid and up to date.

UK issues safety advice for travellers in the UAE

The FCDO has advised British nationals in the UAE to:

  • Follow instructions issued by local authorities.
  • Monitor local and international media for the latest updates.
  • Sign up for FCDO Travel Advice email alerts.
  • Avoid areas close to security and military facilities.
  • Keep essential emergency supplies available in case of a crisis.
  • Stay indoors or seek shelter if instructed during any escalation.

The UK Government also cautioned that “no travel can be guaranteed safe” and urged travellers to remain aware of the potential risks associated with any renewed hostilities.

Iran warns of potential regional targets

The FCDO said Iran has previously indicated it could target locations across the Gulf linked to the US and Israel, including organisations, businesses, facilities and institutions.

It also noted that Iran has previously targeted civilian infrastructure in the region, including ports, airports, energy facilities, roads, bridges and water systems.
