Strategic move seeks to strengthen the Institution’s organisational framework and enhance its effectiveness.
The Board of Trustees of the National Human Rights Institution (NHRI) has approved the formation of two standing committees. One will focus on rights and engagement with non-governmental organisations (NGOs), while the other will oversee complaints, monitoring activities and field visits.
The move is aimed at strengthening the Institution’s organisational framework and enhancing its oversight and human rights functions in line with international standards.
The decision was announced during the third meeting of the Board of Trustees in its second term, held at the NHRI headquarters in Abu Dhabi. The meeting was chaired by Dr Salem Suhail Al Neyadi, Chairperson of the National Human Rights Institution and Chairman of its Board of Trustees.
Board members representing government entities also attended, marking their first meeting during the current term under Federal Law No. 12 of 2021 concerning the National Human Rights Institution.
Discussions focused on strengthening cooperation and coordination with government entities to promote greater institutional integration and encourage the exchange of views and expertise on human rights issues. The efforts are intended to support the NHRI in carrying out its mandate and reinforce its role within the UAE’s national human rights framework.
The Board also discussed a series of administrative measures aimed at developing the Institution’s operational structure. In addition, members reviewed the regulations governing the Board and the NHRI’s organisational framework.
The measures reaffirm the National Human Rights Institution’s commitment to strengthening an institutional framework that protects and promotes rights while fostering a culture of human rights based on efficiency, independence and long-term sustainability.
