Just days earlier, Mariam Kareem made history with a commanding gold-medal win in the women’s 400m hurdles final in Nagoya.

The UAE’s Khaled Al Shehhi successfully defended his Asian Games jiu-jitsu title after defeating compatriot Omar Al Suwaidi in the men’s 62kg final on Thursday, October 1.
His triumph comes just days after Mariam Kareem made history for the UAE with an emphatic gold-medal performance in the women’s 400m hurdles final in Nagoya.

Kareem had booked her place in the final with a dominant performance in Sunday’s heat, clocking a personal-best time of 55.14 seconds. The 18-year-old then produced an even stronger performance in the final, setting a Games record of 54.31 seconds to claim the top spot on the podium.
Al Shehhi’s gold adds to the UAE’s medal haul at the ongoing Asian Games, which also includes the silver medal won by Sulaiman Abdulrahman in the men’s 400m final.
The talented runner had also enjoyed success earlier this year, winning gold at the Asian Under-20 Championships in Hong Kong.
