The restriction, announced by the Emirates Drug Establishment (EDE), will apply to veterinary medicines and raw materials containing ciprofloxacin.

A total of nine registered products will be affected by the decision. Eight are imported, while one is associated with a locally registered company.

Under the new regulations, businesses must discontinue the manufacturing, importation and distribution of affected veterinary products and clear existing inventories before the November 1 deadline.

Any remaining stock must either be re-exported or safely destroyed in accordance with approved regulatory procedures.

The measure specifically concerns veterinary products containing ciprofloxacin and should not be interpreted as a general prohibition on the antibiotic for human medical use.
