Featuring handmade tokens and touching performances, the iftar provided children of determination with a space to connect amid challenging times.

More than 200 people came together for a special Ramadan iftar celebrating inclusion and supporting people of determination. The gathering brought together families of children of determination, community leaders, influencers, and volunteers, focusing on compassion, unity, and providing opportunities for children to showcase their talents.
The evening opened with a recitation from the Holy Quran by Nilofer Saleem, one of the young guests of determination. “I feel very happy to be here,” Nilofer said. “We look forward to this iftar every year. I love meeting so many kind people and receiving lovely gifts.”

The iftar, hosted by JYK Community Services with Westfield Event Management, welcomed families, community members, and distinguished guests at Khalidiya Palace Hotel, including Khalid Al Ameri and Bollywood actress Kalpana Iyer.
Organizers said the evening was intended to emphasize the importance of creating a society where everyone feels supported and valued. “This special iftar is not just a gathering,” said Juhi Yasmeen Khan, founder of JYK Community Services. “It is a reminder that compassion, unity, and inclusion will always define our community.”
Handmade gifts
A standout feature of the evening was a collection of handmade gifts created by the children. Wooden lighthouse pieces, canvas artworks, and sapling pots were signed and decorated by the children and presented to supporters and partners as tokens of gratitude.
These items symbolized growth, resilience, and hope, with guests noting that the personal touches made the event particularly memorable.
“It means so much to receive something created by these wonderful children,” said actress Kalpana Iyer. “Standing together with people of determination and their families creates meaningful moments that inspire hope and compassion.”
Organizers also prepared gift packages for the children and their families, including toys, stationery, hygiene kits, accessories, plants, and grocery packs. Henna artists from Aroushi Beauty Salon added a festive touch, while Aster Clinic provided complimentary health check-ups. The event was documented by Prime Vision Studio, capturing joyful moments and interactions between the children and guests.

True spirit of the UAE
The organizers noted that the gathering aimed to convey a message of positivity amid uncertain regional times. “Many people suggested postponing the event due to the current situation,” said Juhi Yasmeen Khan. “But I believed this was the moment to demonstrate the true spirit of the UAE.”
She added that the iftar was intended to show that communities can remain united and hopeful. “We are one community, we are safe, and we stand together,” Khan said.
Later in the evening, guests enjoyed dinner and spent time engaging with the children and their families. The event featured performances, interactive activities, and conversations that allowed the children to showcase their talents and share their dreams. Families said the gathering offered a meaningful opportunity to connect with others navigating similar experiences.
