UAE Weather Alert: Rain, Cloudy Skies, and Strong Winds Expected to Persist.

Officials urge drivers to exercise caution as rainfall impacts major UAE roads.

Abu Dhabi Police have urged drivers to remain vigilant amid persistent rain, advising them to adhere to the variable speed limits shown on electronic signs. Authorities stressed that careful driving in wet conditions is essential to reduce accidents and maintain road safety.

Speed limits adjusted for rainy conditions

Authorities have activated a speed reduction system on key Abu Dhabi roads:

  • 100 km/h on:
    • Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed International Road
    • Al Noaf Bridge – Al Mafraq Bridge
    • Al Thamiriya Bridge – Al Dhafrah Traffic & Patrols Section Bridge
    • Abu Dhabi – Al Ain Road (Al Faya Bridge – Al Khatim Bridge)
  • 80 km/h on:
    • Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Road (Qasr Al Bahr – Sheikh Zayed Bridge)

Motorists are urged to maintain safe distances, adjust speed according to conditions, and stay vigilant for hazards. Emergency crews are on standby to assist drivers and respond to any incidents.

Speed and safety rules

Authorities have reminded motorists to drive cautiously by reducing speed, keeping safe distances, and staying fully focused on the road. They stressed that distractions—such as using phones or taking photos while driving—are strictly prohibited during rainy conditions.

Dh2,000 fine warning

Authorities have warned that entering valleys during water flow is strictly prohibited. Violations can result in a Dh2,000 fine, 60-day vehicle impoundment, and 23 traffic points, regardless of the driver’s perception of danger. Motorists are urged to adhere to speed limits displayed on road signs and electronic guidance boards.

Stay informed

Residents are advised to follow safety guidance during unstable weather, especially during convective cloud formation. The National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) predicts that unsettled conditions—including cloudy skies, scattered rainfall, and strong winds—will continue in the coming days. Drivers should monitor electronic boards, follow official updates, and maintain responsible driving throughout the rainy period.
