11-month initiative to enhance the UAE’s reserve forces and defence preparedness.
The Ministry of Defence has launched the “Beladi” programme in Abu Dhabi, aimed at developing national talent while strengthening the UAE’s capabilities and overall readiness.
The initiative forms part of a long-term strategy to invest in human capital by equipping young Emiratis with leadership abilities, technical expertise and practical experience, preparing them for future national service.
The programme began with a Leadership Competency Assessment to identify promising Emirati candidates. The selection process included psychological, physical and cognitive assessments, along with face-to-face interviews and field evaluations.
These assessments are designed to determine candidates’ strengths and potential, helping direct them towards career and development pathways that align with their abilities and interests.
The 11-month programme is part of the UAE’s National Service pathway and, during its pilot year, provides participants with several specialised development tracks. The Ministry plans to expand these pathways in future phases to support national capability-building goals and the programme’s long-term vision.
Participants will receive intensive training under the guidance of experienced leaders and instructors from across the UAE Armed Forces. The programme combines specialised academic instruction with practical, hands-on training, giving candidates both technical knowledge and real-world experience.
The Beladi programme is designed to create a long-term pathway that extends beyond the 11-month training period. By strengthening participants’ ties with the UAE Armed Forces, the initiative aims to build a skilled operational reserve capable of supporting national defence and readiness.
The programme also promotes values of national responsibility, belonging and service, while encouraging the continuous sharing of knowledge and expertise. Through ongoing capability development, it seeks to ensure that UAE national talent remains equipped to meet evolving future needs and challenges.
