Dubai advances greener, bike-friendly transport through RTA-Careem collaboration.

Dubai: Dubai has reached a major milestone in its push for sustainable urban mobility, with more than 10 million trips completed on the Careem Bike service since its launch in 2020, reflecting the city’s growing embrace of cleaner and healthier transport options.
Announced by the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in partnership with Careem on Thursday, the achievement underscores the success of initiatives to integrate cycling into Dubai’s public transport ecosystem and advance the emirate’s vision of becoming a bicycle-friendly city.
Since its launch in February 2020, Careem Bike has rapidly grown in both scale and popularity, now serving over one million users. Officials note that this milestone highlights the effectiveness of using cycling to improve first- and last-mile connectivity, helping commuters link seamlessly with public transport while reducing reliance on cars.
Cycling Network
The RTA has invested in an expanding cycling infrastructure, linking residential communities with key destinations and transit hubs. Built to international standards, these tracks are designed to provide safe, seamless, and efficient travel across the city.
To celebrate the 10-million-trip milestone, the RTA and Careem recognized top users, including one rider who completed nearly 5,000 trips. Rewards, such as complimentary subscriptions and dining vouchers, highlighted the growing culture of active mobility in Dubai.
Promotions to Attract New Riders
In a bid to encourage more commuters to cycle, Careem Bike will offer discounted single-trip passes at Dh9.5 on April 11 and 12 using a promotional code, making sustainable transport even more accessible.
Mobility Strategy
Hussain Al Banna, CEO of the Traffic and Roads Agency at RTA, said the 10-million-trip milestone underscores the success of Dubai’s mobility strategy, which emphasizes sustainability, shared transport, and safety. He noted that Careem Bike trips have helped reduce around 6,590 tonnes of CO₂ emissions, equivalent to taking over 2,000 vehicles off the roads.
Al Banna highlighted the dramatic expansion of Dubai’s cycling infrastructure, growing from just 6 km in 2009 to 636 km by the end of 2025, with plans to reach 1,000 km by 2030. This expansion, combined with enhanced connectivity in residential areas and near transit stations, has driven a 23% increase in cycling trips, totaling 57.3 million trips in 2025.
Milestone
Bassel Al Nahlaoui, Chief Business Officer at Careem, said the milestone highlights the strength of the company’s partnership with the RTA and their shared commitment to expanding micro-mobility solutions across Dubai.
From an initial 71 stations, the Careem Bike network has expanded to 210 stations with over 2,000 bicycles, serving 49 communities. The service now covers key areas including Dubai Marina, Jumeirah Beach, Jumeirah Lake Towers, Downtown Dubai, and Al Qudra, solidifying its role as a vital component of the city’s evolving transport landscape.
