Special rain prayers offered in UAE mosque

Date:

Imams across the country led worshippers in the two-rakah prayer for “rain, mercy and abundance upon the country and its people”.

Mosques across the UAE hosted special rain prayers today, in keeping with a directive by the UAE President, His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, earlier this week.

The Salaat Al Istisqaa, as the prayer is called, literally means to “seek rain”. It was offered 10 minutes before Juma, in keeping with the tradition that Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and his companions had started.

There was no Azaan or Iqaamah (call for prayer). Imams across the country led worshippers in the two-rakah prayer for “rain, mercy and abundance upon the country and its people”.

Friday prayers resumed across the country on December 4, with mosques hosting 30 per cent of their total capacity.
