Sharjah introduces fire response motorcycles to improve emergency response times amid traffic congestion

Date:

Recent initiatives by Sharjah Municipality focus on enhancing fire prevention and safety measures in buildings across the emirate.

As part of efforts to improve emergency response times in Sharjah, the emirate’s Civil Defence Authority has introduced a new firefighting motorcycle designed to carry out initial firefighting measures until larger fire engines arrive at the scene.

The Sharjah Civil Defence Authority said the firefighting bike will help cut response times, particularly during periods of heavy traffic in summer. The season often sees an increased risk of fires as rising temperatures place additional pressure on electrical systems, air-conditioning units and the handling of hazardous materials.

Sharjah has shared a brief video introducing the newly launched firefighting motorcycle. Watch here:

On July 20, the General Directorate of Prevention and Protection at the Sharjah Civil Defence Authority carried out field inspection campaigns to assess fire alarm systems, firefighting equipment and related facilities. The inspections aimed to ensure that suppliers were meeting approved technical standards and safety requirements.

The launch of the new firefighting motorcycle comes as Sharjah continues efforts to reduce fire-related incidents and improve emergency preparedness. The emirate has been adopting advanced technologies in buildings, with artificial intelligence (AI) expected to play an increasing role in strengthening structures and improving fire resilience.

Sharjah Municipality has also introduced measures to enhance fire safety in residential and commercial properties. In 2023, the emirate announced a Dh100 million initiative to replace building facades with fire-resistant materials. So far, five buildings have undergone fireproofing upgrades, with plans to complete the work on a total of 40 buildings.
