Saudi Weather Authority Warns of Hail, Winds Above 60 km/h and Possible Tornadoes Across Several Regions.

Dubai: Saudi Arabia has issued warnings for widespread thunderstorms, heavy rainfall, hail and possible flash flooding across several regions through Saturday. Severe weather conditions could also bring powerful winds exceeding 60 km/h, with the possibility of tornadoes and waterspouts in some areas.
The National Centre for Meteorology (NCM) announced on Tuesday that thunderstorms of varying intensity, from light showers to heavy downpours, are expected to affect much of the Kingdom.
The weather system is forecast to bring strong downward winds, blowing dust and sand, reduced visibility and an increased risk of flooding in vulnerable locations.
Heavy Rainfall Expected Across Several Saudi Regions
According to the NCM’s latest forecast, moderate to heavy rainfall is anticipated in Jazan, Asir, Al Baha and Mecca.
Meanwhile, light to moderate showers are expected across parts of Medina, Tabuk, Al Jouf, the Northern Borders, Hail and Najran, along with southern areas of Riyadh and the Eastern Province.
The holy city of Mecca and surrounding governorates, including Taif, Al Jumum, Bahrah, Maysan, Adham and Al Ardiyat, are forecast to experience moderate to heavy rainfall until Saturday.
Coastal areas are also expected to receive rain during the coming days.
Jeddah, Rabigh and Khulais are likely to experience light showers between Tuesday and Thursday, while Al Lith and Al Qunfudhah could receive light to moderate rainfall.
Strong Winds, Flash Floods and Hailstorms Possible
The NCM has cautioned that severe thunderstorms may generate powerful downdraughts, with wind speeds exceeding 60 km/h in affected locations.
These conditions could produce dust and sandstorms, significantly reducing visibility and creating hazardous conditions for motorists.
Heavy rainfall may also lead to sudden flash floods, while some areas could experience hailstorms and rough coastal conditions accompanied by high waves.
The weather authority further warned that tornadoes or waterspouts could form in locations experiencing particularly intense thunderstorms and rainfall.
Unsettled Weather May Continue Into Next Week
Preliminary weather projections suggest that rainfall could continue in certain parts of Saudi Arabia until the end of next week.
The NCM said additional forecasts and weather warnings would be released as conditions evolve, allowing residents to stay informed about potential risks.
Authorities have encouraged the public, particularly motorists and people travelling through areas prone to flooding, to remain alert and follow official weather advisories.
Residents can access the latest forecasts, alerts and safety information through the NCM’s official website, the Anwaa weather application and its verified social media platforms.
