Red light confusion: UAE police books horrific accident.

Date:

In both the instances, the erring drivers crashed into vehicles that had right of way.

The Abu Dhabi police on Thursday shared a video of motorists who appeared confused and seemed to unknowingly jump the red light at traffic signals.

The video shows cars at a junction moving forward once the light turns green, but one car takes a left turn even though the traffic light for the left turn was red. The SUV ends up crashing with a sedan at the intersection.

The video then shows another car taking a left turn as soon as the traffic light for vehicles intending to go straight ahead turns green. This SUV, too, crashes into an oncoming SUV and spins out of control.

In both the instances, the erring drivers crashed into vehicles that had right of way.

The police have warned motorists to be attentive at red lights and pay attention to the road rules and regulations.

It also warned that jumping a red light was punishable by a fine of Dh1,000, 12 traffic points and a 30-day impoundment of the car. In case of trucks, the fine is Dh3,000, and the driving licence is suspended for a year.
