Mbappe’s Brilliant Brace Fires Real Madrid to Thrilling El Clasico Victory Over Barcelona.

Kylian Mbappe scored twice as Jose Mourinho’s Real Madrid secured a thrilling 2-1 victory over La Liga leaders Barcelona at Camp Nou on Sunday, reducing the gap between the rivals to just three points.

The French forward broke the deadlock in the first half before netting a late winner, handing Barcelona their first domestic defeat of the season. Raphinha had earlier restored parity for the defending champions.

Despite the victory, Real Madrid remain third in the standings, behind Atletico Madrid and Hansi Flick’s Barcelona, whose impressive nine-match winning streak came to an end.

The defeat compounded a difficult week for the Catalan giants, who had also suffered a Champions League loss to Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday.

Mourinho praised his players for their discipline, determination and tactical organisation in his first Clasico since returning to the Madrid dugout.

“My team had an extraordinary game, very organised, good concentration, with courage to play out from the back against a team that presses you a lot,” Mourinho told reporters.

The Portuguese manager acknowledged Barcelona’s second-half response but highlighted his team’s composure and resilience in securing the victory.

Barcelona midfielder Pedri admitted his side had fallen short of expectations, particularly during the opening half.

“In general we didn’t have a great game, in the first half we weren’t ourselves, there were a lot of things we could have done better,” Pedri told DAZN.

He also stressed that the title race remained wide open despite the disappointing result.

Real Madrid, missing suspended winger Vinicius Junior, extended their winning streak to five matches across all competitions, offering further encouragement under Mourinho’s leadership.

After enduring two seasons without silverware, Madrid brought back the experienced Portuguese coach in hopes of ending Barcelona’s dominance.

The match began cautiously, with both teams struggling to create clear-cut opportunities.

Barcelona defender Pau Cubarsi made two important interventions to deny Mbappe, while Madrid’s Marc Cucurella repeatedly challenged teenage winger Lamine Yamal.

Anthony Gordon, making his first Clasico appearance since arriving from Newcastle, produced a clever backheel to set up Raphinha, whose effort narrowly missed the target.

Barcelona suffered an early setback when young defender Xavi Espart sustained an injury and was replaced by Alejandro Balde before the half-hour mark.

Madrid goalkeeper Andriy Lunin, deputising for the flu-stricken Thibaut Courtois, made an important near-post save to deny Gordon.

The visitors eventually broke through when Gerard Martin’s attempted clearance struck Mbappe and deflected into the net, giving the French striker his 10th league goal of the campaign.

Barcelona nearly responded immediately, but Lamine Yamal squandered a promising opportunity, sending his effort wide when well positioned to equalise.

The contest became increasingly lively as the first half approached its conclusion, with Yan Diomande nearly doubling Real Madrid’s advantage. However, his powerful effort struck the side-netting, allowing Barcelona to remain within touching distance.

Late Drama Seals Real Madrid’s Clasico Triumph

Gerard Martin made amends for his earlier mistake shortly after the restart, producing a strong defensive challenge to keep Jude Bellingham at bay. The England international was unable to get past Martin or deliver the ball to an unmarked Kylian Mbappe.

Barcelona gradually found their rhythm, and Raphinha, who had struggled to make an impact in the opening half, restored parity shortly after the hour mark.

Pedri orchestrated the equaliser with a well-timed pass to the Brazilian winger, who took his league-leading tally to 13 goals. Raphinha drilled his shot through Bellingham’s legs, leaving goalkeeper Andriy Lunin unable to prevent the ball from finding the net.

The equaliser sparked renewed confidence among the home side, who began pushing forward in search of a winner.

Lunin produced an outstanding save to deny Martin following a corner, keeping Real Madrid level as Barcelona intensified their attacking pressure.

Lamine Yamal came close to putting the Catalans ahead with a curling effort that drifted narrowly wide despite Lunin stretching desperately toward the ball.

Barcelona substitute Frenkie de Jong also threatened to score, but Madrid defender Dean Huijsen produced a crucial block to keep the hosts from taking the lead.

Just as Barcelona appeared to be gaining control, Real Madrid delivered a decisive counterattack that completely changed the complexion of the match.

Substitute Gabriel Jesus surrendered possession, allowing Madrid to break forward at speed and catch Barcelona’s defence off guard.

Eduardo Camavinga surged past Pau Cubarsi before displaying excellent awareness to square the ball to Mbappe, who calmly finished into an empty net after goalkeeper Joan Garcia had been drawn out of position.

The late strike secured Mbappe’s second goal of the evening and handed Real Madrid a dramatic 2-1 victory over their fierce rivals.

The goal also marked a significant personal milestone for the French superstar, taking his tally to 100 goals since joining Real Madrid from Paris Saint-Germain in 2024.

Although major silverware has yet to match his remarkable goalscoring achievements in Madrid, Mbappe’s match-winning performance offered another reminder of his importance to the Spanish giants.
