Pakistan reports 111 dead in a single day due to Covid-19

Islamabad: Pakistan on Thursday reported 111 COVID-19 fatalities in one day, the highest in a period of the last six months (since June this year).

According to the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) with this new one-day toll, Pakistan’s total toll is a little below 10,000 mark at 9,668.

According to NCOC, most deaths have been reported in Sindh, followed by Punjab.

The highest rate of ventilators occupancy in the country is found to be in Multan (51 per cent) followed by Islamabad (40 per cent) Lahore (35 per cent) and then Peshawar (27 per cent), it further reports.

With regard to number of COVID-19 cases in the country, according to the health ministry’s portal, the total number of infections has reached 465,070 – 2,256 in the last twenty-four hours.

The number of active cases across Pakistan was reported to be at 38,268.

Low cost

Meanwhile, Federal Minister for Science & Technology Fawad Chaudhry has shared the target of the ruling PTI government i.e. to make the best coronavirus vaccine available in Pakistan at low cost as soon as possible.

Taking to social media on Thursday, the minister informed that the first meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Coronavirus Vaccine Procurement was held a day earlier on Wednesday. “Vaccine imports into Pakistan are a complex and important issue,” said Fawad in his tweet.

The minister said the committee aims to make the best vaccines available in Pakistan at the lowest possible cost as soon as possible. “More important than the price is the safety of the vaccine and the quality will not be compromised,” he added. It should be noted that the world’s top pharmaceutical companies i.e. for Pfizer and BionTec have developed coronavirus vaccines, the shots of which have been given to people in different countries, while the Chinese coronavirus vaccine is also being tested with good results.
