He will help drive the team’s international growth, development and global positioning.

Dubai Basketball has appointed NBA champion Tristan Thompson as its new Global Ambassador, strengthening the club’s international profile as it pursues its ambition of becoming a major force in global basketball.

In his new role, Thompson will help expand Dubai Basketball’s international reach through strategic partnerships and fan engagement, while supporting the growth of basketball culture in the UAE and beyond. He will work closely with the club’s leadership to strengthen its presence in international markets and advance its long-term vision of positioning Dubai as a leading destination for elite basketball.

Thompson brings more than a decade of NBA experience, including a key role with the Cleveland Cavaliers during their 2016 championship-winning season. He has also been a long-time supporter of Dubai’s rapid growth and development, joining a growing group of international sports stars attracted to the emirate’s global ambitions, long-term vision and expanding sports ecosystem.

“Dubai has become a place where sport, business, culture, and opportunity are all moving at pace, at the same time,” Thompson said.

“Dubai Basketball is building something that feels bigger than a team. There is a genuine opportunity to position Dubai as a global basketball hub, connecting talent, fans and opportunities across the Middle East, Europe and beyond. I am excited to support the club’s journey and help create an environment where players want to come, stay and compete at the highest level.”

Since its launch in 2023, Dubai Basketball has rapidly evolved from a new franchise into one of international basketball’s most ambitious and fastest-growing clubs. The team made history during the 2025-26 season by becoming the first Gulf-based side to compete in the EuroLeague. In only its second season, the club also won the ABA League title and attracted more than 100,000 fans, helping build a growing basketball following and raise the sport’s profile across the region.

Thompson’s appointment comes as Dubai Basketball seeks to further expand its global presence through basketball culture, strategic partnerships, media exposure and fan engagement. His role will also support the club’s broader vision of becoming a platform for basketball excellence, regional pride and international opportunities.
