Fujairah to Host Jiu-Jitsu Championship This Weekend

Abu Dhabi: Fujairah is set to host the second round of the Khaled Bin Mohammad Bin Zayed Jiu-Jitsu Championship, now in its third edition, from March 27 to 29 at the Zayed Sports Complex.

The event will bring together athletes from leading clubs and academies across the UAE, competing across multiple age groups and further cementing the championship’s status as a key fixture on the local jiu-jitsu calendar.

The UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation confirmed that competition will kick off on Friday with the Under-18, Adults, and Masters divisions for both men and women. Action will continue on Saturday with the Under-14 and Under-16 categories, before concluding on Sunday with the Under-12 and Kids divisions.

Across the three days, the championship is expected to deliver high-level competition, while also encouraging families to attend and support the athletes.

Gaining Experience
Since its launch, the championship has played a key role in identifying emerging talent and supporting athlete development. Its regular staging allows competitors to refine their skills and gain valuable experience, preparing them to represent the UAE national team at international events.

Expanding Reach and Community Impact
Hosting the second round of the championship in Fujairah highlights the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation’s commitment to holding events across the country, fostering grassroots participation, and strengthening the sport’s ties with local communities. It also allows fans in different emirates to experience the action firsthand, supporting the vision of positioning jiu-jitsu as a leading community sport in the UAE.

Mohammad Salem Al Dhaheri, Vice-Chairman of the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation, said:
“The Khaled Bin Mohammad Bin Zayed Jiu-Jitsu Championship plays an important role in developing the sport across the UAE. It helps promote a strong sporting culture and deepen jiu-jitsu’s grassroots impact among various communities.”

Raising Standards and Supporting Talent
“The championship continues to grow as one of the key events on the local jiu-jitsu calendar,” said Mohammad Salem Al Dhaheri, Vice-Chairman of the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation. “It provides a strong competitive environment that raises the standard of competition and brings families closer to the sport.”

He also noted that the championship supports the long-term growth of jiu-jitsu by attracting new talent and offering athletes a structured pathway to develop their skills.

Test for Athletes
Wissam Motea Al Ahmad, Under-18 coach at Baniyas Club, said:
“The championship is a strong test for athletes due to the high level of competition between clubs. We are approaching this round with a focus on performance, building on achievements from the previous round and past editions. Our goal is to stay among the top clubs, manage matches effectively, accumulate maximum points, and win the title at the end of the season.”

The event is part of a series of eight rounds held across the UAE, including five GI rounds and three No-GI rounds. It forms part of a broader system designed to support athlete development, enhance club competition, and strengthen jiu-jitsu’s status as one of the country’s most widely practiced community sports.
