IndiGo UAE-India Flights Get Costlier: How Much More Will Travellers Pay?

Date:

IndiGo Revises Fuel Surcharge from October 6, with Fare Increases Varying by Route and Other Factors.

Passengers travelling between the UAE and India with IndiGo could face higher ticket prices after the airline revised its fuel surcharge with effect from October 6.

Travel agents, however, say the increase will not be uniform across all bookings. Although the fuel surcharge has risen, the final airfare will continue to depend on factors such as the base fare, travel dates, passenger demand and seat availability.

How much extra could passengers pay?

Travel industry experts estimate that the overall increase could reach around Dh200 per passenger on certain journeys, although the actual difference will depend on the individual booking.

Bharath Aidasani, managing partner at Pluto Travels, said the cost of a journey could rise by approximately Dh200 for each traveller. That could translate into an additional expense of around Dh800 for a family of four.

For solo travellers, the increase may appear relatively modest. However, the additional expense can become considerably more noticeable for families purchasing multiple tickets.

Why will the increase vary between passengers?

Airfares are dynamic and can change frequently. Two passengers travelling on the same route may therefore pay different amounts depending on when they make their reservations and how much capacity remains on the flight.

Taha Siddique, manager at Siddique Travels, explained that although the fuel component on UAE-India routes has increased, the total amount paid by passengers can still differ because base fares constantly fluctuate.

While the fuel surcharge itself is fixed, factors including the destination, travel date, demand and availability can push the overall ticket price higher or lower. As a result, passengers booking the same route on different days could see significantly different fares.

Travellers should therefore compare the final ticket price rather than assume that every IndiGo fare has increased by an identical amount.

Why could South India passengers see a bigger impact?

Aidasani said travellers heading to destinations in South India could experience a greater impact from the increase, particularly on routes where seat availability is already limited.

Travellers flying to South Indian destinations are expected to feel a greater impact, particularly on routes where airlines have reduced flight frequencies.

Aidasani said the reduction in services has resulted in fewer seats being available compared with earlier periods. He expects the situation to persist for some time, although capacity could eventually improve.

Limited seat availability can put additional pressure on airfares, especially on popular routes where passenger demand remains strong.

What does this mean for families?

The additional expense becomes more significant when several members of the same family are travelling together.

Subair Thekepurathvalappil of Wisefox Travel and Tourism said the increase may appear relatively small for an individual passenger, but the overall cost can rise considerably for a family of four purchasing return tickets. The impact could be even greater during peak travel periods, when airfares are already elevated.

However, he said it was still too soon to gauge how passengers would respond to the revised charges, as the changes had only recently taken effect.

So far, travel agents have not reported significant complaints, with most customers tending to focus on the final cost of their ticket rather than individual components such as the fuel surcharge.

Will airfares remain high?

Travel agents say it is difficult to determine how long passengers could face higher fares.

Ticket prices are influenced by several factors, including passenger demand, available seat capacity, travel dates and the number of flights operating on individual routes. Any increase in flight frequencies or available seats could therefore influence fares in the coming months.
