Sharjah Police issue zero-tolerance warning as authorities step up round-the-clock monitoring.

Sharjah: Sharjah Police have called on the public to avoid the unsafe use and possession of fireworks, warning that violations can put lives at risk and result in serious legal consequences.

Brigadier Dr. Jassim Bin Hadda Al Suwaidi, Deputy Director of the General Directorate of Operations and Security Support, emphasized that public safety is a top priority. He noted that improper handling of fireworks poses significant dangers not only to users but also to the wider community.

“Misusing fireworks can result in serious injuries,” he said, urging residents to act responsibly and take precautions to protect themselves and others.

Brigadier Al Suwaidi also emphasized the legal consequences of trading or using fireworks without official authorization. He explained that under UAE Federal Decree-Law No. 17 of 2019 on Weapons, Ammunition, and Explosives, along with its amendments, strict penalties apply to anyone who possesses or distributes fireworks without a licence.

The law provides for a minimum of one year in prison and a fine of at least Dh100,000, or either penalty alone. Possession, use, import, or export of fireworks and firecrackers without official permits is strictly prohibited.

Sharjah Police have urged the public to refrain from actions that could endanger community safety or lead to legal consequences, noting that specialized teams continuously monitor such violations.

Authorities also encouraged residents to report unsafe practices. Emergencies can be reported by calling 999, while non-emergency cases can be reported through 901. The public may also reach out via the Najid service at 800151.

Brigadier Al Suwaidi affirmed that police teams operate around the clock to maintain public safety and respond promptly to reports.
