Fujairah Police urge parents to prioritise children’s water safety this summer

Date:

The authority urged parents to ensure children wear flotation devices and follow safety precautions, stressing that supervision should not be left only to lifeguards or older siblings.

With families heading to beaches, swimming pools and mountain resorts during the summer holidays, Fujairah Police have launched a public awareness campaign urging parents and guardians to remain alert and never leave children unattended near water.

Organised by the Masafi Comprehensive Police Station in collaboration with the Media and Public Relations Department, the campaign highlights that continuous supervision is the first and most important measure to prevent drowning incidents.

Police stressed that following safety guidelines and maintaining constant supervision can greatly reduce the risk of drowning, especially among young children who can find themselves in dangerous situations within seconds.

A senior Fujairah Police official said protecting children is a shared responsibility that begins with parents and guardians.

“Summer holidays bring families closer to beaches, swimming pools and other recreational water areas, making constant supervision essential. We urge all citizens and residents never to leave children unattended near water, even for a few moments, as vigilance remains the first and most effective line of defence against drowning incidents. By following basic safety measures and prioritising children’s safety, families can enjoy a safe and memorable summer,” the official said.

Police urged parents not to rely only on lifeguards or older siblings for supervision. Families were advised to ensure children use suitable flotation devices when needed, swim only in designated areas and follow safety instructions at beaches and swimming pools.

The campaign also encourages parents to remain alert during family outings, highlighting that even a momentary distraction can quickly lead to a serious emergency.

Through the initiative, Fujairah Police aim to increase public awareness and promote a culture of prevention by encouraging simple safety practices that can help protect lives during the busy summer season.

Police called on residents and citizens to make children’s safety their top priority, stressing that vigilance can help prevent avoidable incidents and allow families to enjoy a safer summer.
