The toddler, holding his mother’s hand, suddenly ran into the street in Sharjah’s Muweilah area and was struck by a car.

A toddler visiting his father in the UAE was tragically killed after being struck by a car. The boy, 1 year and nine months old, had arrived in the country just a month earlier with his mother to spend time with his father, who works as a salesperson in Sharjah. The family hails from Kerala, in southern India.
The incident occurred in Muweilah, near the building where they were staying. The child was holding his mother’s hand while she was disposing of garbage when he suddenly broke free and ran onto the road. “The driver could not stop the vehicle in time,” said M.K., a colleague of the father.
The incident occurred on Wednesday evening around 7pm, while the boy’s father was at work in Qusais. “You know the traffic from Dubai to Sharjah at that time,” said M.K. “He immediately called another colleague, and they rushed to the scene to take the child to the hospital. The ambulance transported him quickly, but unfortunately, nothing could be done to save him. By the time the father arrived, the child had already passed away.”
Local authorities assisted by expediting the necessary paperwork, and the boy was laid to rest on Thursday after the Asr prayer in Dubai.
Heartbreaking scenes
M.K. described the funeral as deeply emotional. “When the mother saw her child’s body, she cried and fainted,” he said. “The father then came to comfort her. There wasn’t a single dry eye. It was such a heart-wrenching scene.”
The boy, born after six years of marriage, was the couple’s only child. “The mother and child had arrived at Abu Dhabi airport a month ago,” M.K. recalled. “It was meant to be a joyous family reunion. The father had even taken time off to pick them up. He was overjoyed to have them here.”
The couple returned to their hometown in Kerala immediately after the funeral. “Yesterday, my wife spoke with the mother via video call, and they talked for a while,” he added. “She seemed to be coping slightly better. We are all praying for them to find strength during this difficult time. As a company, we told the father to take as much time off as he needed and only return to work when he felt ready. We are supporting him in every way possible.”
