Exploring Abu Dhabi: Your guide to the city’s must-visit attractions.

Whether you’re visiting Abu Dhabi for the first time or simply planning a fun day out, the capital has plenty to explore. From cultural landmarks and museums to shopping spots, new attractions, restaurants, cafés and places to stay, there’s enough to fill a day—or an entire weekend.

Begin your visit at Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque

No trip to Abu Dhabi is complete without a visit to Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque. Wander through its grounds, admire the striking architecture and soak up the calm surroundings. Whether it’s your first visit or your tenth, it remains a place worth returning to.

Discover Saadiyat Island on a day out

For a day of art, culture and history, head to Saadiyat Island. Its Cultural District brings together Louvre Abu Dhabi, Zayed National Museum, Natural History Museum Abu Dhabi and teamLab Phenomena Abu Dhabi.

There’s no need to fit everything into one visit. Choose a museum, unwind over coffee afterwards and take your time exploring the island before settling down for dinner.

Explore ADREA

For a change of pace, visit Abu Dhabi Royal Equestrian Arts (ADREA) on Jubail Island. Blending classical horsemanship with Emirati heritage, art and culture, the venue features an equestrian gallery, a library, workshops and stables, alongside daily training sessions.

There’s more to ADREA than horses. Its growing dining and café scene includes spots overlooking the outdoor arena. Head to Knead Bakery & Patisserie – ADREA for pastries, breakfast, lunch or coffee, or grab a bite at SALT Adrea. For Middle Eastern cuisine, Falwa serves dishes drawing on Emirati flavours and ingredients.

It’s an inviting choice for anyone looking to pair culture with good food and a leisurely afternoon, rather than making a quick sightseeing stop.

Explore the Abu Dhabi International Hunting and Equestrian Exhibition

Visiting Abu Dhabi this week? You can still catch the Abu Dhabi International Hunting and Equestrian Exhibition (ADIHEX). Running until September 6, the 2026 edition showcases hunting, equestrian pursuits, falconry, heritage and outdoor activities.

From traditional crafts and falconry to equestrian displays, the exhibition offers a closer look at Emirati culture. It’s also worth considering if you want a change from the city’s museums and shopping malls.

Enjoy a day of fun on Yas Island

Yas Island offers plenty of options for an entertainment-filled day. Take your pick from Ferrari World Abu Dhabi, Warner Bros. World Abu Dhabi, Yas Waterworld and SeaWorld Abu Dhabi, depending on your interests.

For a slower pace, explore Yas Bay or Yas Marina before rounding off the day with dinner.

Make time for some shopping

If you’re planning some shopping, there are several spots to explore. Yas Mall is a convenient stop during a day on Yas Island, while The Galleria on Al Maryah Island combines shopping and dining with a change of surroundings. If you’re near Al Reem Island, Reem Mall is another handy option.

Escape the heat at Snow Abu Dhabi

When the summer heat becomes overwhelming, trade the sunshine for a snowy escape at Snow Abu Dhabi. Located inside Reem Mall, it offers rides and activities in a wintry indoor setting.

Unwind at The Butterfly Gardens

For a gentler pace, visit The Butterfly Gardens, where you can wander indoors surrounded by butterflies. It’s a refreshing alternative to a day at the mall or beach.

Wrap up the day with dinner

After a full day of exploring, settle in for a good meal. If you’re near Mina Zayed, consider Marmellata or Barbasi. Those spending the day on Yas Island can dine at Soraya, while Supernova in Al Bateen is a great choice for a casual burger.

Turn your visit into a weekend escape

If you’re planning to stay longer, Abu Dhabi offers a wide choice of hotels.

For a beachside break, consider The St. Regis Saadiyat Island Resort or Saadiyat Rotana Resort & Villas. Both are on Saadiyat Island, making it easy to combine time by the sea with museum visits.

For a stay nearer the city, Fairmont Bab Al Bahr is an option in Rabdan. If shopping and dining are your priorities, Four Seasons Hotel Abu Dhabi at Al Maryah Island and Rosewood Abu Dhabi put you on Al Maryah Island.

Alternatively, The Abu Dhabi EDITION offers a base in Al Bateen.
