In response to recent regional developments and the resulting travel disruptions, Etihad Rail, in coordination with and under the direct supervision of the Emergencies, Crises and Disasters Management Centre Abu Dhabi (ADCMC), operated special services between Al Ghuwaifat Station in the Al Dhafra region and Al Faya Station in Abu Dhabi.

These services facilitated the safe and efficient transport of over 350 passengers ahead of the official launch of the passenger rail service.

The operation supported a coordinated transfer process following the temporary suspension of certain flight services and was conducted in collaboration with the relevant authorities in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. This cooperation enhanced procedural integration and ensured swift implementation, adhering to the highest standards of safety and operational discipline, as part of a structured national response to evolving regional circumstances.

The service was carried out through a well-structured and carefully managed system, with approved safety protocols and emergency plans immediately activated to ensure smooth and secure operations.

The necessary technical and human resources were deployed to ensure seamless operations, maintaining uninterrupted freight services across the national railway network. Freight operations continued as scheduled, fully aligned with the relevant official directives.

Matar Saeed Al Nuaimi, Director General of the Emergencies, Crises and Disasters Management Centre Abu Dhabi (ADCMC), highlighted that this initiative showcases the national ecosystem’s ability to respond swiftly to regional developments. He noted that it underscores the strategic significance of the UAE’s national railway network and its high levels of efficiency, reliability, and operational readiness under diverse conditions.

He added: “Operating the passenger service ahead of its official launch reflects a high degree of institutional flexibility, leveraging available capabilities to address societal priorities without compromising long-term operational plans or the UAE’s logistical security. It demonstrates the national ecosystem’s capacity to make timely, well-considered operational decisions based on real-time risk assessments in the current circumstances.”

Eng. Mohammed Al Shehhi, Chief Projects Officer at Etihad Rail, stated: “We are proud to operate these passenger services as an exceptional response to the present regional situation, in line with the directives of our leadership to reinforce national efforts aimed at ensuring the safety and stability of residents and citizens across the UAE.”

This initiative highlights the technical and operational readiness of the national railway network, the adaptability of its operating systems, and the expertise of the national workforce, which delivered services efficiently and flexibly without disrupting other logistical operations across the network. “In line with our commitment to facilitating the movement of people, we have scheduled additional services, and operations will continue as needed in close coordination with the relevant authorities until air traffic resumes and flights return to their normal schedules,” officials stated.

The exceptional operation demonstrates that Abu Dhabi’s response framework operates through a proactive model, built on institutional integration and the rapid activation of alternative measures when necessary.

It also reflects the UAE’s capacity to manage the impacts of current regional developments efficiently and reliably, while ensuring the continuity of essential services and reinforcing confidence in the resilience and preparedness of national infrastructure under a variety of scenarios.
