E-scooter accidents lead to fatalities and injuries as riders stray onto roads and hit pedestrians.
Abu Dhabi: E-scooters were involved in 241 traffic accidents across the UAE over the last four years, with the number of incidents recording a significant increase in 2025, according to a Ministry of Interior report.
The crashes led to fatalities, serious and minor injuries, and property damage, prompting authorities to reiterate the importance of following traffic rules and using designated e-scooter paths.
A total of 241 e-scooter-related traffic accidents were recorded across the UAE over the past four years, with incidents witnessing a sharp rise in 2025, according to a Ministry of Interior report.
The accidents caused fatalities, serious and minor injuries, and property damage, leading authorities to once again urge riders to follow traffic regulations and use approved e-scooter lanes and routes.
Official data showed that 17 e-scooter accidents were recorded in 2022, resulting in one fatality and 20 injuries. The number increased to 46 incidents in 2023, causing five deaths and 47 injuries. In 2024, authorities reported 58 crashes, which led to three fatalities and 100 injuries.
The number of incidents reached a four-year high in 2025, with 120 e-scooter accidents recorded across the UAE, highlighting the continued rise in scooter-related incidents.
The Ministry said regulations for e-scooter use were introduced from the early stages of adoption in the UAE. These rules set out technical requirements for both manual and electric scooters, along with guidelines on their permitted use and operating conditions.
Traffic authorities across the UAE continue to conduct awareness campaigns encouraging e-scooter riders to follow road safety regulations, maintain safe speeds in busy areas, use designated lanes and approved pedestrian or cycling paths, and comply with all safety measures to protect themselves and other road users.
