Dubai Police launch new forensic system to accelerate investigations

New process enables investigators to access vital medical evidence more quickly.

Dubai: Dubai Police have rolled out a new medical examination system within their Forensic Medicine Department, reducing waiting times and accelerating the preparation of forensic medical reports. The move allows investigators to access vital medical evidence more quickly.

Major General Hareb Al Shamsi, Deputy Commander-in-Chief for Criminal Affairs, praised the department for streamlining its procedures and introducing new approaches that have reduced the number of steps required to prepare medical reports.

He said the department’s improved performance reflected effective planning, coordinated teamwork and efficient use of resources, all of which support criminal investigations and the wider justice system.

Al Shamsi was speaking at a ceremony held to recognise the department’s employees. The event was attended by Major General Eid Mohammad Thani Harib, Assistant Commander-in-Chief for Criminal Investigation Affairs; Brigadier Rashid Ahmad Lootah, Director of the General Department of Forensic Science and Criminology; Brigadier Khalid Al Sumaiti, Deputy Director for Technical Affairs; Colonel Dr Rashid Hamdan Al Ghafri, Deputy Director for Administrative Affairs; and Dr Younis Al Baloushi, Director of the Forensic Medicine Department, alongside several officers and specialists.

Strengthening criminal investigations

Al Shamsi said improved forensic medicine services play an important role in making criminal investigations more effective. Medical reports help establish the circumstances of a case and ensure that decisions are supported by scientific evidence.

He added that meaningful progress depends on teams regularly reviewing their procedures, identifying opportunities for improvement and turning their findings into practical changes, while maintaining accuracy and quality.

“We take pride in teams that turn challenges into opportunities for development and translate their specialised expertise into tangible improvements in performance. These achievements demonstrate a strong sense of responsibility and an understanding of the importance of every procedure and report in safeguarding rights and serving justice,” Al Shamsi said.

“Investing in our people and empowering them to improve their working methods is the foundation of sustainable development and the continuous advancement of specialised services.”

How the new system operates

Dr Al Baloushi said the department developed the new medical examination system around clearly structured procedures and defined workflows.

Cases are now categorised according to the nature and severity of injuries, enabling medical teams to determine the most appropriate examination process for each case.

For minor injuries, reports can be prepared using existing medical records in coordination with partner organisations. This helps free up resources and allows patients with more serious injuries to secure earlier appointments.

Dr Al Baloushi said the new system, supported by additional medical personnel and expanded operations, has simplified procedures, reduced report preparation times and made case processing more efficient.

Reduced waiting times and quicker reports

The department has also seen an increase in productivity and a reduction in appointment waiting times. It continues to monitor whether medical reports are completed within the established deadlines.

Dr Al Baloushi said the improvements have enabled the department to respond more promptly to the requirements of the justice system while preserving the accuracy and reliability of its medical assessments.

He added that the department would continue working to enhance its services and operational efficiency, ensuring forensic examinations provide timely and dependable evidence to support investigations and safeguard people’s rights.
