Court records indicate that the accused is facing charges under the Philippines’ anti-violence against women and children law. He was granted temporary liberty after posting bail of P72,000 (Dh4,300).
A Filipino traveler was arrested upon arrival in Manila from Dubai over the weekend after immigration officers identified him as the subject of a long-standing arrest warrant.
The 54-year-old passenger was taken into police custody following routine immigration screening, which revealed the outstanding warrant against him.
Philippine authorities flagged the individual during immigration screening at Manila’s Ninoy Aquino International Airport on Saturday, July 18, before immediately handing him over to aviation security personnel from the Philippine National Police (PNP).
The passenger was immediately escorted to the police station within the airport complex, where he was formally placed under arrest.
The suspect is facing charges under the Philippines’ anti-violence against women and children law and was ordered to post P72,000 (Dh4,300) bail for temporary release.
Authorities have not publicly disclosed the identity of the arrested individual, nor details regarding his purpose or length of stay in Dubai.
Brigadier General Dionisio Bartolome, chief of the Philippine National Police Aviation Security Group, said the arrest was carried out through close coordination among law enforcement agencies and Manila airport authorities.
“We will continue to strengthen this coordination to ensure that our airports remain safe. We will not allow our airports to become passageways for individuals with criminal liabilities seeking to evade justice,” Bartolome said.
Authorities have increased arrests of inbound and outbound passengers at immigration checkpoints this year, particularly those with outstanding warrants. Recent cases include a traveler wanted over three counts of bouncing check violations and another passenger arrested on July 18 over an alleged swindling case.
Some of the most significant interceptions involved large-scale illegal drug smuggling attempts, including the seizure of more than six kilograms of shabu (methamphetamine hydrochloride) worth P40.8 million (Dh2.42 million) earlier this year.
A Malaysian national was arrested on February 28 after allegedly carrying shabu valued at P112 million (Dh6.65 million), while another suspect was detained in April for possessing more than three kilograms of the same illegal substance.
