Customers are advised to check directly with their airlines for more specific flight information.
Operations at the Dubai International Airport (DXB) continue to be hampered by the “knock-on effects of today’s heavy rainfall”, its operator said late on Saturday. The incessant rains resulted “in a number of flight delays, cancellations & diversions,” it tweeted.
“We continue to work closely with our partners to restore full operations & minimise inconvenience to our customers,” Dubai Airports said.
The disruption is expected to continue for the next 24 hours due to more rains forecast later in the night on January 11. “Customers are advised to check directly with their airlines for more specific flight information and allow additional time to get to the airport.”
Residents miss flights
Many residents could not make it to the airport due to road blocks and traffic caused by flooding. “I was supposed to make it to the Sharjah International Airport by 4pm. Though I started quite early, I got stuck in traffic for three hours and missed my flight,” said Ambika Vijayan, a Dubai resident.
“Tried all the ways to Sharjah airport. Could not make it,” tweeted a resident, Onur Yalcin.
