Do I need a permit to go out in Dubai? Police clarify

Date:

The police advised motorists to retain documents proving they were out for a genuine reason.
With a 24-hour sterilisation scheme launched in Dubai on Saturday to combat the spread of Covid-19, several residents have asked if they needed a permit to step out for emergencies.

Residents are allowed to step out of their homes for buying groceries or medicines or for their jobs in a vital sector.

Responding to a query on social media about permit requirement before stepping out, the Dubai Police said the permit system remained suspended. The police advised motorists to retain documents proving they were out for a genuine reason.

During the two-week pan-UAE sterlisation campaign, residents needed to take a permit to leave their homes from 8pm to 6am. Radars across the country flashed all vehicles on the roads, but fines were registered only for those that did not have the permit. However, the Ministry of Interior had later suspended the permit requirement, citing “the commitment of residents to the curfew hours”.

As at 1pm on Sunday, the website (https://dxbpermit.gov.ae/home) that issued the permits was not operational. It just flashed this message: “The website will be opened to receive movement permit requests soon.”
