CBD App Now Lets Customers Make Payments Using Accounts from Other Banks

Date:

CBD Customers Can Now Access Balances and Make Payments from Other Bank Accounts.

Dubai: Commercial Bank of Dubai customers can now initiate payments directly from eligible accounts held with other banks through the CBD mobile app, allowing them to manage multiple banking relationships from a single platform.

CBD said it is the first bank in the UAE to offer the capability after receiving approval from the Central Bank of the UAE to operate as a Third-Party Provider under the country’s Open Finance Initiative.

The bank launched Open Finance in a live environment in December 2025, and said the latest development further expands the range of services available through its mobile app.

Payments from other accounts

Customers can now view balances held with other banks and initiate payments directly from eligible external accounts through the CBD app.

The service gives customers a consolidated view of their eligible accounts while allowing them to manage payments involving different banks from a single platform.

CBD said additional Open Finance services are planned for later this year as it continues to expand the capabilities of its digital banking platform.

Securing Third-Party Provider approval is a significant step in our Open Finance strategy. It enables us to enhance how customers manage their financial services while supporting the UAE’s digital transformation agenda.

Dr Bernd van Linder, Chief Executive Officer of CBD

More services planned

The approval allows CBD to expand its mobile app beyond accounts and services held directly with the bank.

Vladislavs Mironovs, Chief Digital Officer at CBD, said the development would allow the bank to extend its app beyond its own ecosystem and create a platform where customers can securely access and manage accounts across different banks. He added that more Open Finance services are expected to be introduced later this year.

The UAE’s Open Finance framework enables secure, consent-based data sharing among licensed financial institutions. CBD’s latest service allows customers to use this framework to view eligible accounts held with other banks and initiate payments directly through the CBD app.
