An all-in-one IT solution for reproductive medicine was launched by the Dubai Health Authority (DHA) on Tuesday, the second day of Arab Health.
Called Bushra (which means ‘good news’ in Arabic), the smart system gives DHA healthcare professionals instant and immediate access to all patient files, allowing the seamless organisation of ?task and processes, officials told Khaleej Times.
The innovation was officially introduced by Humaid Al Qutami, director-general of the DHA; Hana Tahtawa, director of the Dubai Fertility Centre; and Styliani Andronikou, IVF lab director and consultant embryologist at the DHA, along with other officials.
“Bushra will provide clinicians, clinical scientists and other experts at fertility centres with perfect quality assurance and documentation of therapies,” explained Andronikou.
But this reproductive medicine technology doesn’t stop there.
Tahtawa said that in the next phase, “the service will allow patients and visitors to obtain data and information about their IVF treatment in a safe and confidential manner”.
This new IT feature bolsters the capabilities of the Dubai Fertility Centre, which has quickly built a strong reputation locally and internationally because of its state-of-the-art equipment and team of specialists.
Al Qutami said that with the centre’s quality services that treat all forms of infertility, it has been giving hope to several married couples, Emiratis and expatriates, who dream of having a family.
What does Bushra do?
Explaining the advanced capabilities of the system, Andronikou said: “Bushra enables the collection of all data relevant to diagnostics and therapy, such as findings, diagnoses, treatment process, treatment results and documented correspondence, so that they can be retrieved paperlessly from anywhere and anytime.”
Tahtawa added that since the system intelligently organises tasks and procedures, registering appointments and managing waiting lists are done more efficiently.
“This includes a perfect cryo-management system, including consistent documentation of information and sensitive data as well as a quick and uncomplicated execution of communication tasks such as medical reports, diagnostic reports, etc.,” she explained.
According to statistics provided by Andronikou and Tahtawa, since its inception in 1991, the centre has had approximately 4,800 births from the fertility treatments it provided.
