Dubai: The UAE Public Prosecution has flagged misleading and unlawful content circulating on social media, including videos and scenes from outside the country that were falsely attributed to the UAE, a senior prosecutor said.

Khalid Al Madhani, Khalid Al Madhani, noted that authorities recently monitored several posts online containing inaccurate or misleading information.

“In the current circumstances, with misleading content and inaccurate news spreading across digital platforms, it is essential to verify information before sharing it,” Al Madhani told Emarat Al Youm.

He emphasized that relying on official sources and confirming the accuracy of information are key to protecting society and maintaining security and stability. He added that responsibility in the digital space is a shared duty, requiring awareness and commitment from all users.

The UAE Public Prosecution reiterated its message that “information is a responsibility and spreading rumours is a crime,” cautioning the public against publishing or circulating unverified claims, especially those contradicting official announcements from authorised government platforms.

Al Madhani urged social media users to seek information from trusted, official sources and warned against fabricating videos or adding misleading audio effects that falsely attribute events to the UAE.

He highlighted the importance of upholding ethical and professional standards in media, particularly during sensitive periods. Anyone publishing content on websites or social media, he said, must act responsibly and avoid becoming a channel for information that could undermine the country’s security or stability.
