Abu Dhabi Culture is celebrating International Museum Day with free entry to museums, live performances, interactive experiences, and family-friendly activities across the emirate from May 16 to 18.

As part of the three-day programme, visitors can enjoy complimentary access to participating museums and cultural landmarks, along with a full schedule of workshops, storytelling sessions, and hands-on activities on May 16 and 17.

Participating venues include the Zayed National Museum, Louvre Abu Dhabi, the Natural History Museum Abu Dhabi, Al Ain Museum, Qasr Al Hosn, and selected Abu Dhabi libraries.

May 16 highlights

On May 16, the Zayed National Museum on Saadiyat Island, Abu Dhabi will feature a range of cultural performances and family-friendly workshops, including traditional and contemporary music as part of the In Rhythm, Together programme.

Visitors can also take part in storytelling sessions, scavenger hunts, Sadu bracelet-making workshops, and Moments We Keep, an interactive experience for families running throughout the day.

At Al Ain Museum in Al Ain, additional activities will also be held as part of the International Museum Day celebrations.

At Al Ain Museum, visitors can enjoy educational workshops, sketch walks, storytelling sessions, and heritage-inspired experiences throughout the day, along with interactive family activities and in-gallery programmes.

At Louvre Abu Dhabi on Saadiyat Island, the May 16 programme includes guided tours, children’s workshops, and the Quantum Dome Project VR experience for members and Fazza card holders. Families can also join The Secret of the Dome Stars digital treasure hunt, while visitors may experience the immersive We Are Not Alone audio walk and an evening screening as part of the Cannes Film Nights series.

At the Natural History Museum Abu Dhabi on Saadiyat Island, Abu Dhabi, the programme highlights science and creativity through a series of interactive activities, including sun printing workshops, colour and shadow experiments, constellation light labs, and the Shadow Safari experience.

May 17 highlights

On May 17, the International Museum Day celebrations continue across Abu Dhabi with a strong focus on workshops, storytelling sessions, and hands-on cultural and educational activities at participating venues.

Museums and cultural sites, including Zayed National Museum, Louvre Abu Dhabi, Natural History Museum Abu Dhabi, Al Ain Museum and Qasr Al Hosn, will host family-friendly programmes such as guided tours, interactive experiences, and creative learning activities throughout the day.

At Zayed National Museum, celebrations continue on May 17 with a fresh line-up of performances and workshops.

Visitors can enjoy traditional and contemporary performances, while families take part in activities such as Capturing Memories, scavenger hunts, custom pin-making sessions, live Sadu bracelet workshops, and Majlis of Stories.

At Louvre Abu Dhabi, the May 17 programme continues with additional cultural and family-friendly experiences as part of the ongoing International Museum Day celebrations.

The museum will also feature the Book an Easel adults’ art workshop, alongside the Quantum Dome Project VR experience and additional interactive family activities throughout the day.

At Qasr Al Hosn, the May 17 celebrations include The Children’s Takeover and Discover Qasr Al Hosn From a New Perspective, giving families interactive ways to explore one of Abu Dhabi’s oldest cultural landmarks.

At Abu Dhabi Libraries across multiple locations, International Museum Day activities will be held at participating branches, including Khalifa Park Library, Al Wathba Library, Al Bahia Library, Zayed Central Library in Al Ain, and Al Marfa Library.

With museums and cultural sites offering free entry from May 16 to 18, the celebrations are expected to draw families and visitors seeking educational, interactive, and cultural experiences across Abu Dhabi and Al Ain.
