High-achieving students to receive free one-year Hafilat cards and access to dedicated counters.
Abu Dhabi has announced that high-achieving public school students will receive Hafilat cards free of charge for one year, allowing them to use the emirate’s public transport services without paying for the card.
The initiative applies to high school graduates from government schools in Abu Dhabi who achieved an average score of 95 per cent or higher during the 2025–2026 academic year.
Abu Dhabi Mobility said eligible students will also have access to faster service through a dedicated counter.
Hafilat cards can be used on both local bus services within Abu Dhabi and intercity buses connecting different regions. The cards make travelling more convenient by allowing passengers to use a single card instead of purchasing separate tickets for each journey.
There are four types of Hafilat cards:
- Anonymous – Dh10: Suitable for tourists, visitors and occasional travellers. Registration is not required.
- Personalised – Dh10: Designed for residents and regular commuters. Registration is required, and passengers must present their Emirates ID when applying.
- Student – Dh5: Available to eligible students. Applicants must present their student ID along with any other documents requested by the department.
- Senior Citizen – Free: Available to eligible UAE senior citizens who qualify for concessionary public transport benefits. Registration is required, and applicants must present their Emirates ID.
Hafilat cards generally require an initial top-up before they can be used. The balance can then be used to pay bus fares or purchase weekly, monthly or annual Hafilat travel passes, according to the official website.
