Correctional Centre Inmates Showcase Date Harvests, Handicrafts and Creative Artworks.

Abu Dhabi: A selection of locally cultivated dates, handmade crafts and traditional artworks produced by inmates at Abu Dhabi’s correctional and rehabilitation centres is being showcased at Global Food Week 2026.

The Abu Dhabi Judicial Department (ADJD) is presenting these products at its dedicated pavilion during the three-day exhibition, taking place from October 6 to 8 at ADNEC Centre Abu Dhabi.

Visitors have the opportunity to discover a variety of dates harvested from agricultural farms within the correctional facilities, alongside handcrafted products, artistic creations and traditional items made by inmates.

These exhibits highlight the practical skills and creative abilities developed by inmates through vocational training and rehabilitation initiatives designed to support their personal development and future reintegration into society.

Equipping Inmates with Skills for Life Beyond Prison

The initiative focuses on providing inmates with valuable vocational skills and hands-on work experience to help them successfully reintegrate into society after serving their sentences.

By participating in agricultural projects and traditional handicraft activities, inmates can acquire new abilities while strengthening their sense of responsibility, discipline and appreciation for meaningful work.

These rehabilitation programmes also promote productivity and personal development, allowing participants to gain practical experience in farming, agricultural production and traditional craftsmanship.

The initiative is designed to improve inmates’ prospects for employment and independent living following their release.

Promoting Skill Development and Rehabilitation

According to the Abu Dhabi Judicial Department (ADJD), its participation in Global Food Week 2026 reflects ongoing efforts to strengthen rehabilitation programmes within correctional facilities and prepare inmates for a productive return to society.

The exhibition also serves as a platform for the department to connect with agricultural specialists, industry experts and organisations involved in food production and sustainable development.

Through knowledge-sharing and collaboration, ADJD aims to identify innovative practices and approaches that can enhance its existing agricultural and handicraft training initiatives.

The department intends to apply insights gained from these interactions to expand practical learning opportunities for inmates, helping them develop useful skills that may support their future livelihoods.

Global Food Week 2026 brings together government representatives, international organisations, investors, researchers and industry leaders to exchange ideas and explore developments shaping the future of food production, agricultural innovation and sustainability.
