Abu Dhabi Court directs man to refund Dh24,600 in ticket scam case.

Date:

The defendant had earlier been convicted in a criminal case connected to the incident.

Abu Dhabi: The Abu Dhabi Family, Civil and Administrative Claims Court has ordered a man to repay Dh19,600 after he misled another individual by claiming he could obtain discounted airline tickets—a claim the court deemed fraudulent.

In addition, the court directed the defendant to pay Dh5,000 in compensation to cover the claimant’s financial losses and emotional distress caused by the incident.

According to Emarat Al Youm, the claimant filed a lawsuit alleging that the defendant had deceived him by promising discounted airline tickets, collected the payment, and then failed to provide the tickets. The defendant had previously been convicted in a criminal case related to the incident, a ruling that was upheld on appeal.

The court noted that the prior criminal conviction held legal weight in the related civil case, confirming the defendant’s liability for the claimed amount.

In its ruling, the court stated that the compensation was warranted due to the financial harm caused by the unlawful seizure of the claimant’s money, the loss of potential benefits from those funds during the period, and the emotional distress inflicted by the defendant’s actions.

The judgment requires the defendant to repay the full amount, pay the compensation, and cover court fees and legal expenses.
