Called ‘Own’, the police’s WhatsApp service is available in three languages.

Sharjah residents can now get in touch with the police via WhatsApp, authorities announced on Monday, February 3. The number to add to your contact list is 065633333.

Maj-Gen Saif Al Zari Al Shamsi, Commander-in-Chief of the Sharjah Police, said their team is considered the first UAE security authority to use the online platform to provide services round the clock.

Called ‘Own’, the police’s WhatsApp service is available in three languages: Arabic, English, and Urdu. A message is first acknowledged with an automated response, asking the user to choose from a list of services. Then, the concern is directed to the right department and the resident is provided with a guide on the next steps.

“The service is expected to enhance communication with all groups of society, as well as support innovation in the field of security. Sharjah Police’s efforts are part of the Ministry of Interior’s goal of fostering a culture of innovation,” Maj-Gen Al Shamsi said.
