Earthquake strikes Saudi, Iran; no impact in UAE

There were no immediate reports of damage or casualties.

An earthquake struck in the eastern region of Saudi Arabia late on Wednesday night.

According to the National Center of Meteorology, the earthquake was recorded at 10:27pm (UAE time) on Wednesday.

“A 3.9 Magnitude Earthquake on Richter scale is recorded in East of harth – Saudi Arabia  at 22:27, 2020-01-22 “UAE time,” an NCM tweet said.

The quake had no effect in the UAE, the NCM added.

Magnitude 5.2 earthquake hits south Iran

The NCM also monitored an earthquake measuring 5.2 on the Richter scale that struck Iran’s southern province at 11:23pm local time on late on Wednesday night.

The epicentre was determined at 28.093 degrees north latitude and 56.866 degrees east longitude, with the focus at the depth of 21 km, reported agency.

No immediate report of casualties or damage has been reported yet.

Teams have been dispatched to the quake-hit region to assess the possible damage and help people in need, according to the Red Crescent Society of Hormozgan Province.
