Sharjah Reports 11 Turning-Related Crashes and 54 Accidents Resulting in Injuries in 2025.

Sharjah: Sharjah Police have shared CCTV footage capturing a collision involving two sedans at a busy road junction, highlighting the dangers of illegal U-turns and improper lane usage.
The video, published by the Sharjah Police Operations Centre under its Rasad (Monitoring) awareness campaign, shows a silver sedan making an unauthorised U-turn from an incorrect lane.
As the vehicle crosses the intersection, it moves directly into the path of another sedan proceeding straight through the junction while the traffic signal is green.
The approaching driver is unable to avoid the turning vehicle, leading to a side-impact crash in the centre of the intersection.
Following the incident, Sharjah Police reminded drivers of the importance of obeying traffic laws, choosing the appropriate lanes when making turns and remaining attentive to surrounding vehicles.
Authorities emphasised that reckless manoeuvres and violations of road regulations can result in serious accidents and endanger the lives of motorists and other road users.
“Improper turning can put your life and the lives of others in danger. Comply with traffic regulations, for safety begins with your commitment,” Sharjah Police said in its road safety message.
Sharjah Police caution motorists against dangerous road manoeuvres
The footage serves as a reminder of the risks associated with sudden turns and unauthorised U-turns, especially at heavily used intersections where approaching drivers may have limited time to respond.
Motorists are advised to pay close attention to road signs, lane markings and traffic signals while ensuring they are in the correct lane before attempting a turn.
Drivers should also monitor nearby vehicles, check traffic conditions and avoid abrupt changes in direction that could interfere with other road users.
Ignoring lane restrictions or making turns from prohibited positions can significantly increase the risk of collisions, particularly at traffic-light-controlled intersections where vehicles may be travelling in multiple directions.
Sharjah Police have reiterated their appeal for responsible driving, urging motorists to remain vigilant, respect traffic regulations and prioritise road safety to reduce accidents and safeguard lives.
CCTV footage exposes dangerous traffic violations
The release of the surveillance video forms part of Sharjah Police Operations Centre’s continued efforts to enhance road safety through advanced monitoring systems, traffic enforcement and public awareness initiatives.
Under the Rasad (Monitoring) campaign, authorities use CCTV recordings to identify unsafe driving practices and illustrate how violations of traffic regulations can lead to serious road accidents.
By publishing footage of actual incidents, Sharjah Police seek to educate drivers about the consequences of reckless behaviour and encourage safer, more responsible driving habits.
The initiative also reinforces the importance of following traffic regulations and remaining alert while navigating busy roads and intersections.
Sharjah reports 426 road accidents in 2025
According to statistics released by the Sharjah Traffic Department, the emirate recorded 426 traffic accidents during 2025, resulting in 572 casualties, including 33 fatalities and 539 injuries.
Among those injured, 95 suffered severe injuries, 280 sustained moderate injuries and 164 experienced minor injuries.
The official figures also identified 11 collisions involving turnarounds or U-turns, highlighting the risks associated with improper turning manoeuvres.
Meanwhile, dangerous driving practices were responsible for 54 accidents resulting in injuries.
The breakdown of these incidents included:
- Sudden swerving: 36 accidents.
- Unsafe entry onto main roads: 14 accidents.
- Failure to remain in designated lanes: Four accidents.
These statistics underline the importance of respecting lane markings, complying with turning restrictions and carefully assessing surrounding traffic before changing direction or merging onto major roads.
Sharjah Police continue to encourage motorists to avoid dangerous manoeuvres, follow traffic laws and maintain awareness of other road users.
Authorities stress that responsible driving and adherence to traffic regulations are essential to reducing collisions, preventing injuries and protecting lives across Sharjah’s road network.
