Fili Farm raises slow-growing chickens without hormones, using a specially formulated feed made from organic wheat, corn, soybeans, turmeric and plant-based oils.

Sharjah’s Fili Poultry Farm has made history as the first poultry farm in the UAE to be awarded the free-range label by the Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology, marking a significant achievement for the country’s locally produced poultry sector.
The farm operates under the Sharjah Agricultural and Livestock Production Establishment (Ektifa). According to the ministry, the certification confirms that the facility meets the approved requirements and standards for free-range poultry production.
Dr Farah Al Zarooni, Assistant Undersecretary for the Standards Affairs Sector at the ministry, said the certification would boost consumer trust in UAE-made products while enhancing their competitiveness in domestic and international markets.
She also highlighted food manufacturing as a key national priority, explaining that the free-range label aligns with the UAE’s industrial strategy and supports the objectives of the Make it in the Emirates initiative.
Dr Farah Al Zarooni added that the recognition highlights the collaboration between the ministry and Ektifa in advancing best practices in food production. She also encouraged other poultry farmers across the UAE to seek the free-range certification.
Special poultry feed developed by Sharjah Ruler
Dr Khalifa Musabah Al Tunaiji, Chairman of Sharjah’s Department of Agriculture and Livestock and Chief Executive of Ektifa, said Fili Poultry Farm raises slow-growing chickens in a free-range environment without using hormones.
He explained that the chickens are given a specially formulated feed developed by Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah.
The unique feed blend contains organic wheat, corn, soybeans and turmeric, along with plant-based oils infused with garlic, wild thyme, oregano, eucalyptus and frankincense.
Al Tunaiji described the certification as an important achievement demonstrating the farm’s dedication to poultry welfare and responsible production methods.
He said the recognition would further build consumer confidence in Fili’s poultry products and enhance their competitiveness in the market.
He also emphasised that Ektifa adheres to internationally recognised quality standards across its product range while complying with organic food production requirements.
Strengthening consumer confidence in UAE-made products
Al Zarooni highlighted the role of the UAE’s national quality infrastructure in supporting sustainable industrial development and improving the competitiveness of locally manufactured products.
She explained that this framework encompasses standards, conformity assessment, accreditation and market surveillance, all of which contribute to maintaining product quality and strengthening trust in UAE industries.
She added that broader use of the free-range certification could open up new market opportunities for UAE producers while strengthening consumer trust in food production standards and practices.
