GenDubAI helps families explore AI safely and creatively with practical guidance.

Dubai: As artificial intelligence (AI) becomes increasingly integrated into children’s daily lives, many parents are seeking guidance on how their children interact with the technology, its potential risks and benefits, and ways to encourage responsible use.

To address these concerns, Dubai has introduced GenDubAI, a new digital platform designed to help families better understand AI and support children in using it safely, responsibly and creatively.

The initiative has been developed by the Dubai Centre for Artificial Intelligence (DCAI), in partnership with the Community Development Authority (CDA) and Dubai Future Foundation.

Targeted at families with children aged eight to 15, GenDubAI offers practical advice and interactive educational resources in both Arabic and English.

The mobile-friendly platform allows parents and children to explore AI-related learning materials together, making it easier to incorporate digital awareness and responsible technology use into everyday family activities.

How parents can benefit from GenDubAI

GenDubAI aims to make artificial intelligence easier for families to understand by encouraging parents and children to explore the technology together under proper guidance.

The platform offers accessible, practical educational resources that answer common questions about AI and demonstrate how children can use AI-powered tools safely and effectively.

It also introduces parents to the basic concepts, principles and applications of artificial intelligence, helping them recognise both the opportunities the technology offers and the potential challenges associated with its use.

For parents who are unfamiliar with AI, GenDubAI provides an opportunity to improve their own digital knowledge while actively supporting their children’s education and development.

The initiative also promotes creativity, independent thinking and problem-solving skills, encouraging children to engage with AI in meaningful and productive ways.

Why responsible AI use matters for children

As artificial intelligence becomes increasingly common in education and everyday activities, teaching children how to use these tools safely and responsibly is essential to preparing them for a technology-driven future.

Helping children understand AI’s capabilities and limitations can encourage informed decisions, critical thinking and responsible digital habits from an early age.

GenDubAI seeks to help families adapt to the growing presence of artificial intelligence by raising awareness, safeguarding personal privacy and encouraging safe and responsible use of AI-powered technologies.

The platform also incorporates UAE cultural values and traditions into its educational resources, ensuring that the content remains relevant and meaningful to families across the country.

Dubai officials highlight importance of responsible AI learning

Hessa bint Essa Buhumaid, Director General of Dubai’s Community Development Authority (CDA), emphasised that artificial intelligence has become an essential part of young people’s daily lives, making it increasingly important for families and communities to guide children towards responsible technology use.

She highlighted the need to equip younger generations with digital skills while ensuring they remain aware of the ethical responsibilities and values associated with emerging technologies.

“In Dubai, we believe that preparing for the future begins with people, and that empowering future generations with the tools of tomorrow must go hand in hand with awareness, values, and responsibility,” Buhumaid said.

She explained that GenDubAI places families at the heart of AI education, encouraging parents and children to learn together and use technology as a means of strengthening communication, creativity and shared learning experiences at home.

Buhumaid further stated that the initiative supports Dubai’s broader vision of developing a digitally skilled and responsible generation while preserving cultural identity.

“This initiative reflects Dubai’s commitment to preparing future-ready generations, in line with the Dubai Social Agenda 33, by empowering young people to embrace technology with confidence and responsibility while preserving their values and identity. Dubai’s leadership in AI is measured not only by technological advancements, but by their positive impact on individuals and families, and their ability to inspire future generations to learn, innovate, and shape their own future,” she added.

Khalfan Belhoul, CEO of Dubai Future Foundation, highlighted the UAE’s position among the world’s leading countries in artificial intelligence adoption, noting that children are increasingly using smart devices both in classrooms and in their daily lives.

He emphasised the importance of helping parents understand the opportunities and challenges associated with AI so they can guide their children towards safe and responsible technology use.

“Through this initiative, we aim to help parents confidently guide their children in benefiting from the opportunities offered by AI while also understanding its challenges. Knowledge of safe and responsible AI use is one of the greatest gifts parents can give their children to help them thrive in the age of artificial intelligence,” Belhoul said.

Encouraging AI learning through everyday family interactions

Saeed Al Falasi, Executive Director of the Dubai Centre for Artificial Intelligence (DCAI), explained that GenDubAI is designed to help children explore and benefit from artificial intelligence under their parents’ supervision, while enabling families to monitor their learning progress more effectively.

He described GenDubAI as a “first-of-its-kind platform” centred on the idea of “family moments,” offering educational activities and resources that can be easily incorporated into everyday routines.

The initiative aims to encourage meaningful discussions between parents and children about AI, helping families better understand the technology while promoting responsible digital habits.

“GenDubAI reflects local values and cultural identity while supporting children’s learning, creativity and intellectual development,” Al Falasi said.

Supporting Dubai’s vision for a digitally empowered future

The launch of GenDubAI aligns with the objectives of the Dubai Social Agenda 33 and the UAE’s Year of the Family, reinforcing efforts to strengthen family relationships and support children’s educational and personal development.

The initiative reflects Dubai’s broader commitment to preparing younger generations for an increasingly technology-driven world while ensuring that innovation is accompanied by digital awareness, ethical responsibility and respect for cultural values.

GenDubAI is also expected to expand its offerings over time, introducing additional educational materials, interactive tools and learning pathways to keep pace with developments in artificial intelligence and the evolving needs of families.

Through this approach, Dubai aims to empower parents to play an active role in their children’s digital education, helping young people develop the knowledge, confidence and skills needed to navigate the AI era safely and responsibly.
