Abu Dhabi Police Share Crash Footage Highlighting the Dangers of Reversing on Busy Roads.

Abu Dhabi: Abu Dhabi Police, in collaboration with the Monitoring and Control Centre, have shared video footage showing traffic accidents resulting from motorists reversing unsafely on public roads. The initiative aims to highlight the dangers of such actions and encourage safer driving practices.

The Traffic and Security Patrols Directorate has issued a warning to drivers against reversing their vehicles on roads, especially after accidentally passing an exit or diversion.

Authorities explained that abruptly stopping or reversing in moving traffic can catch approaching drivers off guard, increasing the likelihood of serious accidents, injuries and damage to vehicles or surrounding property.

Police advised motorists who miss their intended exit to continue travelling in the correct direction and take the next available exit to reach their destination safely, rather than attempting to reverse.

Fines and Penalties for Dangerous Reversing

Motorists caught reversing dangerously can face a Dh500 fine and four black points on their driving licence.

More serious violations involving reckless driving that threatens the safety of people or property can result in stricter penalties, including a Dh2,000 fine, 23 black points and the impoundment of light vehicles for 60 days.

Abu Dhabi Police urged drivers to follow traffic regulations, remain attentive and prioritise road safety to prevent avoidable accidents.
