Prosecutors to Investigate Circumstances and Motives Behind the Incident.

Dubai: UAE judicial authorities have opened an investigation into an incident aboard a flydubai flight travelling from Dubai to Tel Aviv that was diverted to Saudi Arabia, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on Thursday.
Flight FZ1073, which departed from Dubai International Airport for Tel Aviv, was diverted following an incident in the flight deck and subsequently landed safely at Tabuk Airport in Saudi Arabia, according to a ministry statement.
UAE Attorney-General Counsellor Dr Hamad Al Shamsi has ordered the formation of a specialised Public Prosecution team to investigate the circumstances and causes surrounding the incident.
The decision follows flydubai’s confirmation that an altercation took place in the flight deck, prompting crew members travelling on board to intervene and secure the aircraft.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said UAE judicial authorities have jurisdiction over the case under the country’s applicable legislation because the aircraft is registered in the UAE and operates under the UAE flag. As a result, UAE law applies to offences committed on board the aircraft, including those occurring outside the country’s territory.
According to the ministry, investigators will examine the circumstances and motives surrounding the incident, including whether there was any connection to terrorist activity or intent and whether the incident involved prior planning or direction.
The UAE also thanked Saudi authorities for their cooperation and response in handling the incident following the aircraft’s diversion to Tabuk.
The ministry urged the public to rely on statements and information released through official channels and to avoid sharing speculation or unverified reports while the investigation remains underway. It also called for conclusions to be avoided until the inquiry is completed and its findings are announced.
