MoU to Evaluate Integrated Platforms and Sensors for Underwater Surveillance.
Dubai: EDGE Group and German shipbuilder and defence company TKMS are exploring a partnership to jointly develop underwater surveillance and protection capabilities, amid growing defence and security cooperation between the UAE and Germany.
The memorandum of understanding was signed in Munich during the UAE’s state visit to Germany and is part of a wider initiative between the two governments aimed at expanding cooperation in the defence and security sector.
Under the MoU, EDGE and TKMS will explore an integrated approach combining multiple platforms and sensor systems to provide a more comprehensive picture of underwater activity.
The MoU was signed by Miguel Ángel López Borrego, Deputy Chairman of the Supervisory Board of TKMS, and Omar Al Zaabi, President, Commercial at EDGE.
Underwater security in focus
The planned collaboration will explore ways to combine TKMS’ platform capabilities with EDGE’s systems expertise to strengthen surveillance and protection across the maritime domain.
According to the companies, integrating multiple platforms and sensor systems could provide a more comprehensive picture of underwater activity while supporting responses to a variety of maritime threats.

UAE-Germany defence ties deepen
TKMS said the MoU further develops its existing relationship with the UAE and supports the broader defence and security cooperation initiative established between the two governments.
The agreement comes amid rising demand for naval capabilities as maritime security concerns grow and greater emphasis is placed on protecting vital commercial shipping routes.
