Phase 2 expansion to increase hospital capacity to 200 beds and strengthen specialist care in Dubai.
Dubai: King’s College Hospital London – Dubai has officially begun the next phase of its expansion at the Dubai Hills facility, marking a significant milestone in the hospital’s continued growth and the development of its specialist healthcare services across the UAE.
The groundbreaking ceremony was held on September 23 at King’s College Hospital London – Dubai Hills, formally signalling the start of construction on the hospital’s latest expansion.
The ceremony was attended by Ahmed Humaid Al Tayer, Chairman of King’s College Hospital London – Dubai; Kimberley Pierce, CEO of King’s College Hospital London – Dubai; Roy Clarke, Chief Financial Officer of King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust; and Mohammed Saeed Al Raqbani, Board Vice Chairman of King’s College Hospital London – Dubai. Senior representatives from the hospital’s board, King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and King’s Commercial were also present.
Expected to be completed in 2028, the expansion will increase the hospital’s total capacity to 200 beds while significantly enhancing its medical, surgical and critical care services.
The expansion comes as King’s College Hospital Dubai continues to strengthen its expertise in complex and highly specialised healthcare. The increased capacity will enable the hospital to broaden its range of services and accommodate a growing number of patients from across the UAE and the wider region.
Ahmed Humaid Al Tayer said the expansion represents the next phase of the hospital’s long-term vision. He noted that since its opening, King’s College Hospital Dubai has aimed to bring the clinical expertise and standards associated with King’s in London closer to patients in the UAE.
He added that the new facilities will enable the hospital to treat more patients, introduce additional specialised services and continue investing in the medical expertise and infrastructure required to meet Dubai’s growing healthcare needs.
The expansion further strengthens King’s College Hospital Dubai’s longstanding partnership with King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust in London, supporting the continued growth of specialist and complex healthcare services in Dubai.
For patients, the project is expected to provide greater treatment capacity while enabling the hospital to expand and enhance its specialist services.
Kimberley Pierce said the development is focused on broadening the range of care available to patients. She highlighted the planned introduction of radiation oncology, which will allow the hospital to offer a more comprehensive cancer care pathway, covering diagnosis, treatment and ongoing care within the same facility.
She added that the next phase will provide the additional space, infrastructure and capacity needed to support the hospital’s growth and deliver more advanced treatments in Dubai.
Roy Clarke said the expansion marks an important milestone in the hospital’s development, noting the growth in both the scale and complexity of care provided in recent years.
He added that the increased capacity will allow King’s College Hospital Dubai to serve more patients and further strengthen its specialist services, while King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust will continue supporting its Dubai colleagues as the project progresses.
The Phase 2 development marks the next chapter in King’s College Hospital Dubai’s expansion, reinforcing its commitment to providing greater access to advanced, multidisciplinary healthcare services for patients across the UAE and the wider region.
