New Card Payment Option Designed to Make Transactions Faster and More Convenient.
Dubai: The Migrant Workers Office in Dubai and the Northern Emirates (MWO Dubai) has introduced electronic point-of-sale (POS) and card payment facilities for several of its services, offering overseas Filipino workers (OFWs), employers and other clients a faster and more convenient way to pay applicable fees.
The new payment option became available on September 14 and applies to selected services provided by MWO Dubai.
Card Payments Now Available
Clients can now pay electronically through POS terminals or cards for a range of MWO Dubai services, including Balik-Manggagawa contract verification, employer accreditation and job order processing, rehire and direct hire processing, as well as Tadbeer hiring services.
In Advisory No. 21, MWO Dubai said the new payment facility was introduced in response to requests from OFWs, employers, principals and other clients seeking a more convenient and accessible way to settle service fees.
The office added that the initiative forms part of its ongoing efforts to improve the convenience, accessibility and efficiency of its services for the Filipino community and other clients.
Cash Payments Remain an Option
The introduction of card payments will not affect the existing cash payment system, with clients still able to pay in cash for services covered by the new facility.
Customers can now choose between cash and electronic POS or card payments, depending on their preferred method.
For OFWs who may not be carrying sufficient cash when visiting the office, the new payment option allows them to complete their transactions without having to leave the premises to withdraw money.
Existing Fees Remain Unchanged
MWO Dubai has confirmed that the introduction of card payments will not result in any increase in existing verification fees.
Applicable charges will continue to be determined in accordance with the existing rules and regulations of the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW).
However, clients who choose to pay by card may incur standard transaction charges depending on whether they use a local or international card. Value added tax (VAT) may also apply, based on the rates and regulations set by the payment service provider and the UAE government.
MWO Dubai added that an official schedule of fees and charges will be displayed at its premises to provide clients with clear information and guidance.
Supporting DMW’s Digitalisation Drive
The introduction of POS payments forms part of the Department of Migrant Workers’ (DMW) wider efforts to digitalise government services and provide more streamlined, technology-enabled transactions for OFWs and other clients.
The facility is particularly useful for workers visiting MWO Dubai for time-sensitive services, such as contract verification before travelling to the Philippines for a holiday.
OFWs Welcome the New Facility
In a separate statement, MWO Dubai said OFWs preparing to travel on vacation have welcomed the introduction of card payments at the office.
Previously, workers without sufficient cash could have needed to leave the office and visit a nearby ATM before completing their transactions. With the new facility, eligible payments can now be made directly by card at MWO Dubai, making the process quicker and more convenient.
OFWs have also welcomed improvements in the processing of contract verification applications, with many reporting a faster and more convenient experience.
MWO Dubai said clients can wait for their turn in an air-conditioned area, helping make the overall process more comfortable, efficient and pleasant.
With both cash and card payment options now available for selected services, clients have greater flexibility in completing their transactions. The initiative also forms part of MWO Dubai’s continuing efforts to make its services more efficient, accessible and convenient for the Filipino community.
