Hand-engraved Austrian firearm showcases the fusion of hunting heritage and fine artistry.
Abu Dhabi: A rare Austrian shotgun valued at approximately Dh1.2 million is captivating visitors at the Abu Dhabi International Hunting and Equestrian Exhibition (ADIHEX 2026). The firearm is being showcased by UAE-based Akila as one of the event’s most distinctive luxury collectibles.
Taking approximately 18 months to complete, the bespoke shotgun combines precision craftsmanship with intricate hand engraving, elaborate detailing and 24-karat gold embellishments. The result is a firearm transformed into a highly refined collector’s piece, where function meets fine artistry.
Khalid Al Kaabi, Executive Director of Akila, said the shotgun was among the most exceptional and rare pieces the company had selected for display at this year’s exhibition.
“The manufacturing process took around a year and a half, given the precision and extensive hand craftsmanship involved,” Al Kaabi said.
He added that the hand engraving and carving alone took more than six months to complete, underscoring the exceptional level of detail and specialist expertise that went into creating the piece.
The shotgun is crafted from Grade 8 walnut, regarded as one of the finest grades of walnut used in luxury firearms, and features intricate decorative detailing accented with 24-karat gold.
According to Al Kaabi, the piece combines the precision and performance associated with fine hunting shotgun craftsmanship with the artistry and attention to detail of traditional luxury workmanship.
International reputation
Austrian luxury gunmaking has earned an international reputation for its emphasis on precision, hand-finishing and meticulous attention to detail. Highly customised firearms can take months or even years to complete, particularly when they feature elaborate engraving and bespoke decorative elements.
The rare shotgun also highlights a growing segment of the hunting and equestrian market centred on luxury collectibles and traditionally crafted pieces. These continue to sit alongside modern equipment, technologies and innovations showcased by specialist companies at ADIHEX.
